The Púchov Rock

skalaA great job in discovering historical development of the town had been done by baron Emil Fredrich Johannes Hoenning O´Caroll, a native from Hildesherm, who was burried in Púchov. He did research of the Púchov Rock, where he found many remarkable objects. Ater the first important success in 1888 when he found a bronze bracelet and two bronze clips he devoted his work and research to the Rock for a long time.It was justified that in a quite small territory of this place there were a few periods of all cultures from the older Stone Age till the period of the Roman Empire. The results of Hoenning´s skala2investigation have been housed not only in the Slovak National Museum in Martin, also in Budapest and Vienna. The only known look of the Rock has been made by Hoenning. This picture shows the archaeological situation and refers to the folk tradition:it was said that the rock reminded of Maria Therese and her court counsellor Václav Antonín Kounic. The Púchov Rock nowadays has an absolutely different look as there was a stonepit in the previous century there.
